COOKIES & SPARKLE: EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH HENRY CHEUNG

KNOW YOURSELF, MAKE YOUR OWN HISTORY. TEAM WANG has becoming the one of the most popular street fashion label in Asia. HKRANKING sat down with co-founder Henry Cheung to discuss his future plans and partnership with Jackson Wang.

H: Henry

Why would you set up the brand Team Wang?

H: Jackson has always wanted to deliver his ideas and thoughts to people. We thought of creating Team Wang could completely preset the ideas through our designs, products, and exhibitions. Our brand slogan is “Know yourself, Make your own history” and we want to deliver our motto to all people.


How did you make the acquaintance of another founder?

H: We have met each other since secondary school and we shared similar ideas and personalities.


How would you settle the differences of opinion with another founder?

H: Since we have known each other for a long period of time, we do discuss any problem that we are facing and we think direct communication can solve our problem of having different opinions.


What are the identities and ideas of Team Wang?

H: Like I said, we don’t set any boundaries with endless possibilities for Team Wang. So, we use “invisible man” as a theme from day one.



What are the designed features of the line TeamWang Cookies - The Velvet?

H: Team Wang Cookies – The Velvet Line The advertisement aims to showcase resilience and liveliness. The velvet as the main theme is an energetic and lively material that possesses softness and resilience like human skin. In the promotional video, the hidden figure is wrapped by velvet-made products and is fighting against himself, which symbolises the struggles and resistance each official member is confronted with whilst understanding and exploring themselves – as long as you can resist the incidental fatigue, you can transform into your most real self. In addition to sustaining the brand’s DNA, the brand-new cookies line is encompassed with a brand-new element – velvet, a symbol of resilience and energy. This time, the colour of the background logo has been lightened with an aim to gathering more attention to the product itself and the philosophy of the brand.


How do you balance the commercial values and brand preferences when you design?

H: When we are designing our products, we integrate materials which are comfortable and in great texture for us. I am controlling the commercial part, while we tend to present comfort and quality as the priority before that.


What is the plan for future directions?

H: Like our brand slogan, we won’t set any boundaries on creating. So, there will be no specific form of launching our collection. As long as there are new inspirations, ideas, or concepts, we will launch our products aperiodically.


What are the inspirations of the creations?

H: We were inspired by quite lots of details in daily life. And, based on our theme “invisible man”, we will combine both together.


What would you do if you are out of inspiration?

H: We believe that our designer and creative director Jackson wang has infinite inspiration on creation.


Would you present other styles besides the light functional style for the brand?

H: We have both cookies and sparkle series. You can see there are multiple surprises from sparkle series and all of our products are creative and unexpected. We are looking forward to creating more and more items with various colors and styles.
